2009 has been one of the worst years for old media. The shift from older forms of media to the web has been very difficult. The collapsing economy in late 2008 caused a domino effect that later forced many old media companies to downsize or close. It forced them to start realizing the inevitable: Old media will have to find it's way online in a new form in order to survive. Some have tried to use old methods of business to reach the same audiences on the web. Most have failed. Some have innovated and have found a lot of success.

The web has opened up new communities, new technology and new standards for old media companies to follow. Online community building, marketing, fund-raising, and overall purpose is a lot different than it was in print, broadcast or radio form.
